Nova Scotia born, Toronto-based singer-songwriter Andrea England has a unique ability to work successfully in two different music worlds, placing pop co-writes such as Casualty on Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger’s solo debut album, Killer Love, (for which she earned a U.K. Gold Record), while recording and performing as an Americana/folk solo artist herself.
A full seven years after her debut album, Lemonade, thrust her onto the scene with three Music Nova Scotia Award nominations, a TIMA Award, and prizes in the John Lennon International, USA, International, OCFF and NSAI songwriting competitions, Andrea released her sophomore effort, Hope & Other Sins (produced by powerhouse producer/guitarist Colin Linden) reconfirming her place at the artists’ table as it promptly entered Cashbox Magazine’s Top 50 Folk chart and hit #1 on the Galaxy Folk Roots Radio.
Working with emerging artists as well as with an international who’s who of songwriters, recent highlights for Andrea include cowriting “”Nothing but a Song”” on Meghan Patrick’s (2017 CCMA’s Female Artist of the Year) debut album, Grace and Grit, and co-written singles released by international pop artists
Zameer, Kolton Stewart, Roveena, and Hairspray/ Jersey Boys star, Tara Macri.
Andrea is a voting member of the American (NARAS) and Canadian (CARAS) Academies of Recording Arts & Sciences, a past and/or present judge for the Grammy Awards, Juno Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards, Aboriginal Music Awards, East Coast Music Awards, and Canadian Country Music Awards. She’s curated the CMW Songwriters Circle and has performed as an artist herself at SXSW, NXNE, CMW, CCMA Week, ECMA, OCFF and FAI music festivals.
A proud alumnus of both Dalhousie (Gender & Women’s Studies) and St. Francis Xavier (English Literature) Universities, Andrea believes in the power of education and the importance of giving
back: she’s led songwriting workshops for Guitar WorkshopPlus, the Honey Jam, the Singing Competition, Seneca College, and Elaine Overholt’s Big Voice Studios and is the founder and host of Four Chords & the Truth, Toronto’s hottest ‘in the round’ top songwriters show, which is presented quarterly at the Dakota Tavern in partnership with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whisky and in support of the Unison Benevolent Fund.
