Chris Birkett

Chris Birkett has been involved in producing, engineering, writing and playing music since the 1970s. His collaborations have sold more than 100 million records worldwide over the last 30 years.

He started his musical career as a guitarist for well-known Memphis artists: Rufus Thomas, Ann Peebles, Gene Knight and King Floyd. He then signed a major deal as an artist with Tony Visconti’s ʻGood Earthʼ records.

His career has since expanded to include the production, engineering and mixing of many UK and international hits including the Sinead O’Connor album containing the International #1 Hit single ʺNothing Compares 2 Uʺ.

His first solo artist single ʻWhere Do We Go From Hereʼ, was included on the Polygram album ʻOne Voice One Loveʼ alongside other artists, U2, Peter Gabriel, Dire Straits, Bob Marley, Tears for Fears and Queen. He produced the last 3 albums for Canadian artist Buffy Sainte-Marie who won a Juno for the most recent album ʺRunning for the Drum. Chris and Buffy’s collaboration on her come back album ʺCoincidence and Likely Storiesʺ for Chrysalis records in the early 90’s raised huge interest in the press. They started the album via Compuserve the pre world wide web file transfer system. Buffy sent her Keyboard song files from her studio in Kauai to Chris’ London Studio. Chris then recorded the keyboard parts to 24 track tape and took the tapes to Steely Dan’s studio in Hawaii to finish the recordings. They were the first on record to use this technology.

Chris recently moved to Canada and opened a recording studio in Toronto and is currently working on Buffy’s latest album for True North Records. His new album ʺBe Creativeʺ is being recorded in his Toronto studio and features performances from Canadian artists like Glen Milchem (Blue Rodeo), Steve Bowen (Fiddlestix), David Bray, Rosita Stone, Jeremy Edwardes and many other talented
